ASCA President, Brandi Rai, issued the following statement related to the mandate letter released for Alberta’s Education Minister, Demetrios Nicolaides.
The Education Minister’s mandate letter highlights some important priorities on which ASCA’s Members have requested, through ASCA’s Advocacy Policies, for Alberta Education to consider. Strengthening PUF funding, expanding supports for qualified individuals in our schools and classrooms, expanding prevention and early intervention mental health support for students, and improving testing and educational supports for children with complex needs are some of the areas that parents, through ASCA’s Member School Councils, have identified as being important priorities for ensuring the success of Alberta’s K-12 students.
ASCA looks forward to working alongside Minister Nicolaides and education stakeholders to explore and strengthen ways Alberta’s parents, through legislated school councils, can continue to provide these important perspectives to schools, school divisions, and the Ministry of Education through ASCA.
