Parent Voices During COVID-19
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alberta School Council's Association (ASCA) actively and intentionally reached out to parents and caregivers of Alberta's K-12 students in every area of the province, and in every system of choice.
Through the administration of four (4) surveys over 2 years (Spring 2020 to Spring 2022), the opinions and perspectives of parents and caregivers of Alberta's K-12 students fluctuated as new information, policies, and procedures influenced their lived realities.
ASCA is extremely grateful to McMaster University PhD Candidate Erica Fae Thomson and MacEwan University Research Coordinator Samantha Mullin for their gifts of countless hours of expertise in analyzing, compiling, and summarizing the robust data gathered in these surveys. Their knowledge and skill in producing these reports will be appreciated by ASCA, its Members, and audiences around the world for years to come.
This is report 1 of 4 reflecting parent voices during through ASCA's COVID-19 surveys. Its purpose was to gather the opinion of parents and caregivers of students in Alberta's K-12 education system about the 2020-2021 school re-entry discussion points outlined by Alberta Education on May 6th, 2020.
