Alberta School Councils Conference
Posted onConference celebrates parents as partners in education for 95 years
Marking its 95th Anniversary, the Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) will bring school councils in Alberta together to connect and celebrate at their annual conference event and business meeting this weekend in Edmonton.
“While it started with the mothers, almost a century ago, parents across our province are still coming together through their school councils to learn together, be empowered, and to elevate their voices through advocacy policies.” says ASCA President, Brandi Rai.
The School Councils Conference and ASCA Annual General Meeting (AGM) is April 26 - 28, at the Delta Marriott Edmonton South. More than 200 delegates are expected to attend development sessions, network, and discuss current provincial education issues.
Working to strengthen parent engagement in education, ASCA provides a voice for parents as the provincial organization representing school councils in Alberta.
“Parents on school councils play important roles in the success of students locally and provincially,” says Brandi Rai, ASCA President. “This weekend’s event is another culmination of the efforts of thousands of parents who came together before us, and a legacy for the thousands of parents who will come together after us in the pursuit of equitable, quality public education for all students.”
The AGM determines association policy that forms the basis for ASCA advocacy. Topics this year
include Climate Education in the K-12 Curriculum, Funding for More Assessments of Learning Disabilities, Improving Indoor Air Quality in Classrooms, Preserving Safe and Inclusive Spaces for 2SLGBTQI+ Students, Support for French Immersion Teachers, Equity in Playground Funding, Enhanced Reporting of and Support for Class Size and Complexity.
